FAQs

What is Community Acupuncture?

Community Acupuncture is a more affordable and accessible way to experience acupuncture. Rather than private rooms, participants will be seated in one larger room. The atmosphere is relaxed, and many people experience the soothing effect of a group environment.

If you've always wanted to try acupuncture but were hesitant, this is a supportive and easy way to give it a try! Dr. Alex works from a trauma-informed perspective, and will be available to answer any questions you have about acupuncture as we go. Everyone welcome.

What does it do?

We typically place 5 needles on each ear following the NADA protocol - a set of points that promotes overall relaxation and balance, and is also used to treat stress, anxiety, PTSD, addictions and detoxification. You will likely feel a sense of relaxation right away when you get the needles, and this effect may stay with you for the next few hours. Regular treatments can increase and prolong these benefits.

What should I expect in the treatment?

You will select a start time when you register. Upon arrival, we'll get you signed in and you can take a seat and get comfortable. Dr. Alex will go around to new arrivals to check in and apply the needles to your ears. You'll stay seated with the needles in for up to 40 minutes, while enjoying their calming effects.

The needles will be left in for up to 40 minutes (but you can signal us if you need to get up sooner). Once they're removed, you get up slowly and can take this relaxation with you as you go about your day.

How will it feel? What if I'm scared of needles?

The needles are very tiny and gentle. Some people feel a slight pinching sensation as they go in (that disappears quickly), others don't feel them go in at all!

Dr. Alex will always check in before we start to make sure you feel comfortable. You're free to change your mind at any time.

Don't want needles at all?: We'll have ear seeds available instead (small beads applied to the points with adhesive tape) that have a similar effect.

This is a no judgement zone - the priority is your safety and comfort.

Can anyone get acupuncture?

Yes, everyone is welcome! You'll complete a brief intake form before you arrive so Dr. Alex knows what treatment is right for you.
